Solid wood panels by NORDPAN, both single and multi-layer, represent a partly processed raw material, “in solid wood” as the name says, that is ideal for many applications, from the construction of furniture to indoor finishes and to the construction of large timber buildings.

Solid wood panels are a natural product that keeps its characteristics even after processing. For storage, processing and treatment of the panels we recommend you follow these guidelines:

  1. Storage: panels must be stored in enclosed and possibly climate controlled rooms, placed on a flat surface with supporting wood sections, these at maximum pitch one metre.
    The stack must be completely covered to protect it from any humidity and damage to the surface.
  2. Indoor furnishings: for indoors application, solid wood panels are used mainly for the construction of furniture and for decoration. Our panels are delivered to the customer with a humidity of 8±2%. Changes of temperature and humidity can cause panel shrinkage, expansion and deformation.  We recommend therefore that the panels be stored in areas with stable air conditions and not too dry. Even adopting all possible caution some small cracks may form, caused by radiant heat from a window or the sun, or slight deformation above all in the case of extremely long and narrow installation fronts;
  3. Use outdoors and in humid areas: both single layer panels, characterised by bonding class D4 (B4), and also multi-layer panels – including those with bonding class AW (ex AW 100) – must be installed protecting carefully the surfaces and the edges (for example sills). The physical characteristics of the conifer timber must be respected absolutely, hence the panels must never be exposed to standing water; any water must always flow away freely.  Take all measures needed to avoid any phenomena of shrinkage, expansion and deformation of the panels;
  4. Building large structures in timber: for this application Nordpan has obtained from the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik authorisation n. Z-9.1-465 attesting the characteristics and qualities of the product;
  5. Use of solid wood panels having 3 and 5 layers, as to standard EN 13353, for use in dry, humid and outdoor applications: all our multi-layer panels are produced in conformity with the requisites of the marking standard CE EN 13986.

When using solid timber panels, never forget that wood is alive and moving!
